How many hours do I have to volunteer? We base most time slots on 4 hour increments, however, some events will require more time and some less. The approximate time frame is listed under each sport's information. We do not have any requirement for the number of hours you volunteer. Of course, more is always welcome! :)
Do I need to know about the sport to volunteer? No prior knowledge of the sport is required to volunteer (with the exception of wrestling). We ask all volunteers to arrive at their sport at least 15 minutes early for basic job instructions.
Is there a training class I need to attend prior to the event? At this time, only new registration volunteers are required to come into the SMSG office for a 5-10 minute training.
Can my business/group work together as a group? Absolutely! Please contact the volunteer coordinator to learn what sport's are available for your group.
Can my family volunteer with me? Yes! We encourage families to volunteer together. All ages are welcome to volunteer, however, volunteers under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
What should I wear? Wear your official Show-Me State Games Volunteer T-shirt. If your volunteer site is outside, we recommend that you wear some form of protection from the sun such as a hat, sunglasses and sunscreen.
Where and when should I pick-up my volunteer t-Shirt? T-Shirts can be picked up the week of June 6th for the June weekend, and July 11 for the July weekends. You can pick your shirt up at the SMSG office, 1400 Rock Quarry Center, Entrance 5 (the back of the building); our offices are open 8am-5pm.
Do I need to bring anything? We HIGHLY recommend that you bring some bottled water to drink, this will not be provided at your site and may not be available for purchase. Same goes for snacks, sunscreen, etc.
What if there is bad weather? - Please watch our website smsg.org and/or our Facebook page for any inclement weather updates. Any delays or cancellations will be posted there. If a sport is delayed, you will still be needed. Onsite registration may continue if just rain and there is a sheltered place to do so. Please call with any questions.
